Notre recommandation. The location, it must be said, is perfect: opposite the Imperial Palace and Hibiya Park, not far from Ginza. Then there’s the refined design by architect Kazukiyo Sako, who has created a gentle modernist setting (spa, pool, sweeping views). There are numerous restaurants on-site (including the Peter, good for meat), but you can’t beat a trip to Kidoguchi on Omotesando for its remarkable—and affordable—sushi. Recommended. Occupying an 18th-century Milanese building near Via Monte Napoleone, this was the first hotel opened by the group Bulgari. This bold venture was an immediate success. With its elegant modern design, 4,000 m of private2 gardens, 58 rooms and suites, and spa, it has set the bar very high. The pièce de résistance is the Italian restaurant helmed by the three-star chef Niko Romito. BULGARIHOTEL Via Privata Fratelli Gabba 7b. Tél. +39 02 805 805 1. www.bulgarihotels.com 139
