Business model innovation, however, offers a comprehensive approach to innovation, based on an alternative view of strategy and by questioning rules of the game. The Odyssey 3.14 approach, developed at HEC Paris after over ten years of research, consulting and teaching, combines innovation and strategy. Based on the 3 pillars that make up the business model, this approach suggests 14 directions to explore in order to invent or reinvent a business model. OBJECTIVES • Distinguish between different types of innovation • Understand what a business modelis and how it can be used as a framework for strategy formulation • Discover and apply the Odyssey 3.14 conceptual tools to create new business models • Evaluate the inherent difficulties in strategic innovation and understand how to create a culture that allows them to be offset PROGRAM Focus 1 What is a business model The analysis of the 3 components of a business model (value proposition, value architecture and profit equation) provides a comprehensive understanding of a company’s strategy and the basis for a new approach to innovation Focus 2 14 directions for exploration After a presentation of the 14 directions, illustrated by numerous examples, participants will apply the tools in a workshop setting Focus 3 Make it happen! Implementing innovation in firms is challenging. The objective is to help participants find their own ways of developing a supportive culture for innovation – from ideation, idea selection and Academic Directors experimentation to implementation.
