music concerts at the Teatro Principal. There was once a time, in the 1980s, when creators of diverse disciplines from different pla-ces found in Menorca the peace they needed to be able to develop their talent. This is the case of Laetitia Lara, at that time a Parisienne student of Architecture, who came to the island on a short break and connected with it with her soul, ‘I fell in love with its stones and quarries; I later returned to study them and a job for Menorca Cathedral made me stay’. In 1994, she created Lithica, an organisa-tion that protects the quarries in s´Hostal from debris. ‘It is sponta-neous land-art, opened by the quarriers’ hands. Lithica awakens buried spaces, giving a contem-porary view of an archaic pla-ce and filling it with life, with environmental, educational and scenic activities. Thus the quarries become a gar-den, an open-air museum, a wor-kshop, a theatre, etc.’. Visiting them is understanding the island’s crea-tive origin and its future.
