With barely 50,000 inhabitants, the Dutch municipality of Weert, located practically on the border with Belgium, has just opened one of the most amazing museums in the world. The new Museum W, which houses over 17,000 works of religious art and regional history, has turned into a magic box that also acts as an exterior display case. ‘We conceived one of the façades to resemble a gold-cladded reliquary, in which the relics of the holy are kept’, explains designer Maurice Mentjens, in charge of the project that has been executed on the premises of the old town hall, built in 1982. The original features of the golden façade are the screens that project video installations created by artists, as well as information about the exhibitions inside the new art centre. El Teatro de la Zarzuela is, without a doubt, one of the must-see places in Madrid. Not only for its history, which since 1856 has made it a sublime temple of culture (this is the stage on which Federico García Lorca performed, Maria Callas sang, Plácido Domingo made his debut, Paco de Lucía played and Rudolf Nuréyev danced), but also for its present role as a keeper of Spanish lyrical heritage, and specifically of the Zarzuela genre that both gives it its name and makes it world-unique. This safeguarding is carried out at all times through a carefully-considered prism of modernity. Comfortably and cohesively settled in the 21st century, the theatre on Calle Jovellanos reaches out to all audien-ces —and this has always been the intention of its Direc-tor, Daniel Bianco— asserting once again, in the 161 per-formances that make up the new season, its essential role in diverse theatre. Tickets are now on sale for all performances throu-ghout the 2022-23 season, except for the XXIX Lied cycle, which will go on sale on Tuesday 13th September (entra-dasinaem.es, Tel.: +34 911 939 321 and box office).
