Just over 67 kilometres of coastline and 18 inter-national artists. Beaufort24, the Belgian contemporary art triennial, has transformed the country’s coastline this sum-mer. Forty-two works of art will be on display outdoors in different locations until the 3rd of November, creating an itinerary that can be enjoyed on foot, by bicycle or tram. “Placing artworks in a variety of locations, such as dykes, dunes, parks or nature reserves provides inspiration for art-ists and offers residents and visitors alike the opportunity to interact with art in unconventional settings. This decentrali-sation of art promotes cultural enrichment and accessibility, extending beyond metropolitan areas,” explains Els Wuyts, curator of the event. Based on the idea of natural connec-tions, Beaufort24 takes the message “Fabric of Life” as its starting point to create a network of public artworks that aims to call attention to the conservation of nature. From Sara Bjarland’s installation of plastic chairs in Wenduine, overlooking the North Sea, to Ivan Morrison’s artificial dune on Zeebrugge beach in Bruges. As the curator says: “Through the medium of art, environmental issues can be explored and highlighted, raising awareness and prompting reflec-tion on our relationship with the natural world”. www.triennalebeaufort.be Escultura de Femmy Otten en la avenida Leopold II, 28 en la localidad de Oostende. // Sculpture by Femmy Otten at 28 Leopold II Avenue in Oostende.
