ES+ | No.3 | 2025/2026 Jaume Plensa is an advocate of art in public spaces because it is “a very democratic way of introducing art into people’s everyday lives”. As a result, he has had a lot of contact with mayors who have an “extraordinary” reputation. “Spain is a country of great mayors”, he emphasises. What would Jaume Plensa say to a young person who told him they wanted to pursue a career in art? He would celebrate with a glass of cava, he says, but he would encourage them not to look at the most successful artists, but rather at the ones who enjoy it the most. “Because the most important thing about art isn’t the result, it’s the process”, he adds. 21
