The Art as the Desti-nation. Air Europa and TravelX, the company that has developed the first dis-tribution protocol of the tourist sector based on blockchain technol-ogy, have launched the first NFT (non-fungible token) flight ticket series, also known as ‘NFTickets’. Owners who purchase NFTickets will have access to an Air Europa flight to Miami on 29 Novem-ber, as well as perks and events that will take place in Art Basel, the well-known international art fair, held in the city at the beginning of December. For this reason, in collaboration with a group of acclaimed artists, a series of 10 NFTickets will be released every 14 days via the travelex-change.com platform. The first series ever was published during a live auction held in mid-April in Paris. ‘Innovation is in our DNA. We have been pioneers in the imple-mentation of new technologies within our industry and it could not be any different with NFTs, which could be the next step in the tour-ist industry’, explained Bernardo Botella, Global Sales Director at Air Europa. ‘We are proud to work with TravelX on this project and to be the first airline to adopt blockchain technology to manage and com-mercialise our offer’, he commented. The first NFTicket in the collection has been designed by the mul-ti-disciplinary artist, Carlos Betancourt, under the title The Art as the Destination. ‘With this piece’, says Betancourt, ‘I’m experimenting and extending the boundaries of art with NFT technology, preserving the experience of travelling’. NFTickets are a new kind of NFT that combines digital information with experiences and services. The details of the operation are safe-ly and securely recorded on the blockchain. When ready for use, the owner only has to present the NFT at the flight desk and a matching flight ticket will be issued.
