A network of support for emergency response As disasters occurred in 2023, the Foundation was able to count on the massive involvement of Air France teams and Foundation members to come to the aid of victims. Whether by donating money, equipment or time, or logistical support to transport freight and rescuers, the Air France network was there, including current and retired employees. At magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.5, these two earthquakes, the most powerful since 1939, caused several thousand casualties and considerable damage in both countries. We also raised funds from the airline’s employees. The event raised €6,640, which was donated to Care France, an NGO specialising in emergency aid. This outpouring of generosity helped to boost food aid, provide access to drinking water and build emergency shelters. With the help of Cargo and its partners, equipment was collected and transported to the regions affected by the earthquakes. Support for Moroccans after the earthquake The Air France Foundation launched a fundraising campaign to support victims of the 6.8-magnitude earthquake on September 9, 2023. This disaster, which hit western Morocco, caused almost 3,000 deaths. Every euro raised was matched by Air France and donated to Care France to meet first emergency response needs: access to water, accommodation and hot meals. A total of €46,760 was raised. On the ground, the NGO worked with Moroccan Red Crescent teams in the Al Houz region, to the southeast of Marrakesh. Working directly with our local Turkish and Syrian teams, Care France contributed to the emergency response by setting up the first base camps, distributing food and guaranteeing the community’s safety. Our NGO also provided assistance to a local organisation, Syria Relief, which provides psychological first aid and mental health support to families, both children and parents. In Morocco, Care France was once again able to respond very quickly thanks to our fast-acting Moroccan teams. After responding to life-threatening emergencies, the NGO began the recovery phase, reconstructing schools, public buildings and roads. The Air France Foundation contributed to these two major operations by distributing flight vouchers to Care France staff travelling to the disaster site and making donations. This support is invaluable and fundamental, as it enables us to take a long-term approach, working on important development that goes beyond emergency aid.” SCROLL
