As a result, these children and teenagers are at risk of marginalisation, exacerbated by very difficult, even unworthy living conditions (substandard housing, no access to water or electricity). Supported by the Fondation Apprentis d’Auteuil, the M’Sayidie project is a prevention programme aimed at out-ofschool minors on the island, aged between 8 and 18, who are living in very precarious conditions. It has already led to the creation of a day-care centre to help these young people go to school, and to promote their social integration, citizenship and independence. Around two hundred and fifty young people are supported in this way every year. In 2023, renewed support from the Air France Foundation enabled a branch of the M’Sayidie project to be opened in the Petite-Terre district, providing support for sixty young people. Educational and socio-educational workshops, furniture and school equipment are financed. The Air France Foundation has contributed €25,000 to this project. SCROLL Testimonial Testimonial Paul Tezanou Founder of the Centre for Blind Youth in Dschang (Cameroon) Cameroon - Making more knowledge available in Braille for visually impaired young people in Dschang The Air France Foundation and the CJAD (Centre for Blind Youth in Dschang) Accueil Notre Dame de la Paix, have worked together since 2016 to improve the daily lives and education of blind, visually impaired and albino youth. The CJAD was founded in 1975 by Paul Tezanou - now Chairman of the French Union of the Blind. He noticed that the facilities for visually impaired young people did not have sufficient teaching materials for their education. In 2023, the CJAD project modernised and expanded the library used by the centre’s youth. The aim is twofold: to acquire Braille textbooks for all subjects taught and all course materials, and to promote the social and professional integration of all CJAD children and teenagers. The stakes are therefore high for these young people who, once they know how to read and write in Braille, can enrol in the town’s regular schools. The CJAD’s work on integration and reducing inequalities aligns perfectly with the Foundation’s values. That’s why we have provided €20,000 in support of this project. SCROLL Paul TezanouFounder of the Centre for Blind Youth in Dschang (Cameroon) “A blind person myself, I founded the Centre for Blind Youth (CJAD) on May 1st, 1975. Today, the centre is home to around sixty blind, visually impaired and albino young people. The CJAD works to integrate blind people into society, protect their rights and provide them with psychological and educational support from an early age. The Air France Foundation has been supporting our work for several years now, in various ways: • providing school equipment adapted to blind, visually impaired and albino children in mainstream schools, • helping to create accessible sports facilities for the centre’s residents, • equipping the multimedia room for the visually impaired and the library with school textbooks written in Braille and on low vision black paper for specialised teachers. The Air France Foundation gives us our rightful place in society by seeing us as full citizens of the world, not separate from it.” SCROLL Founder and Managing Director of Biblionef Testimonial Testimonial Dominique Pace Morocco Empowering disadvantaged youth through reading Access to education and culture is a fundamental right for everyone, and even more so for children. That’s why the Air France Foundation has made a long-term commitment, supporting the Biblionef initiative since 2005. This nonprofit creates and equips public, school and community libraries for underprivileged children and young people in several countries around the world to give them a better education. In 2023, for the third year running, the Foundation supported a project to provide Morocco with 8,000 new books. Thanks to the Zakoura Foundation, its local partner since 2016, Biblionef has equipped schools in rural areas and underprivileged urban neighbourhoods in the following regions: Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, L’Oriental, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, Beni Mellal-Kenitra, Casablanca-Settat, Marrakesh-Safi and Souss-Massa. The Foundation awarded a €30,000 grant to make these school libraries possible. SCROLL Dominique PaceFounder and Managing Director of Biblionef “Biblionef is an international non-governmental organisation dedicated to facilitating access to books for disadvantaged children and young people around the world. We create, equip and improve school, public and community libraries for young people by providing them with quality new books from our partnerships with French youth publishers. These truly cooperative projects are implemented by our partners in the field. Biblionef has been helping the Zakoura Foundation create hundreds of preschool classes, which are in seriously short supply in Morocco, and set up reading corners, since 2017. Forty thousand books have been distributed in 7 years. The illiteracy rate in Morocco is 32%* and 300,000 children drop out of school every year. Biblionef’s continued contributions are thus greatly appreciated and essential for the years to come. The Air France Foundation has been our loyal partner since 2005. Many projects around the world have come to fruition thanks to their invaluable support.” * 2015 rate, most recent data available.
