In order to fulfil its mission to protect children from sexual exploitation, ECPAT networks with civil society organisations and coalitions to share knowledge and best practices on the protection of children’s rights. ECPAT is well established in Madagascar, having already carried out a number of projects in close collaboration with local partners such as the Ministry of Population and Social Affairs and various organisations active in the country (Cœur et Conscience, SOS Village d’Enfants, etc.). The guiding principle of this non-profit organization’s work is to strengthen local actors by sharing knowledge and providing training in research methods so that they can diagnose and define courses of action on their own. In 2022, the Air France Foundation supported a project with two specific objectives: train children to protect themselves and their peers, and offer socio-educational support and sustainable economic alternatives to girls who are victims of abuse or exposed to sexual exploitation. The Foundation donated €70,000 to ECPAT. SCROLL France: Women in Digital Careers In 2022, the Air France Foundation inaugurated a partnership with BECOMTECH, a non-profits organizations which promotes digital careers to young girls in difficulty. Since the 1980s, there has been a significant decline in the presence of women in the digital fields. While computer science used to be the way women accessed scientific disciplines, women’s access to digital technology has gradually deteriorated. They currently account for only 15% of the workforce in the IT sector. As part of our support for underserved youth, the Air France Foundation is currently contributing to two programmes, JUMP IN TECH and AMBASSADRICES BECOMTECH, in three regions of France: Île-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Pays de la Loire. JUMP IN TECH offers an intensive four-week training course during which girls ages 14 and up are introduced to computing and the gender issues in the field through programming and digital communication workshops. At the end of these workshops, the participants join the AMBASSADRICES programme, which supports them as they develop their skills and leadership. The Foundation’s funding is specifically focused on rolling out these two programmes in the Loire-Atlantique region, for a sum of €25,000. SCROLL Colombia: Giving Child Soldiers Back their Future In Colombia, WAPA (War-Affected People’s Association) is working to reintegrate child soldiers with the support of the Air France Foundation. Since a peace treaty was signed between FARC and the Colombian government in 2016, clashes have lessened in intensity, but persist in some regions between the government army and the various paramilitary groups still active in the country. To date, almost 18,000 children have been recruited by paramilitary groups. WAPA’s mission is to take charge of the social reintegration of children discharged from these groups in partnership with its local branch Proyectarte. Corporación Proyectarte is a non-profit organizations based in Medellin that develops educational and vocational training programmes and artistic projects to help young people between 14 and 18 who have experienced serious social problems to help them rebuild their lives. Two reintegration centres, in Cali and Medellin respectively, took in 90 young people. Since 2022, the Air France Foundation has been supporting a project to provide psychosocial support through sports therapy for 30 former child soldiers housed in a reintegra-tion centre run by the Ciudad Don Bosco in Cali. The WAPA project is run by an interdisciplinary team of psychologists and sports professionals. The Foundation’s financial support amounts to €25,000. - BESTRUN École bleu outremer: - raising awareness of the challenges of tomorrow’s ocean in Mayotte.
