our sector’s Competitiveness our sector’s Competitiveness Agenda 2030 Agenda 2030 Green Transition Green Transition Green Transition The first driver of change, the Green Transition, encompasses the different economic, social and political strategies and measures taken to mitigate and adapt climate change, protect biodiversity and natural resources and the green transformation of the economy. In Europe, the green transition has grown exponentially in relevance to become a cornerstone in recent years thanks to the European Green Pact policies, devised to build and translate the United Nations 2030 Agenda into the continent’s reality as a burning issue on the international political agenda. The major institutions are trying to act as efficiently as possible in the fight against climate change, the loss of biodiversity and the planet’s health, and transforming the traditional economic model into a circularity-based model is one of the key actions to alleviate this context of ecological crisis. The second driver, the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, comprises 17 Sustainable Development Goals and sets out a wide range of specific economic, social and environmental goals and actions that governments, companies and individuals can work on - in different magnitudes - to contribute to change. Aclima has taken the 2030 Agenda and SDGs as the reference framework for rolling out its strategic plan and therefore for achieving its main goals and lines of action. By leading by example, Aclima’s member organisations reinforce their position as a benchmark in the environmental sector and guarantee their commitment to all economic sectors to support and drive the green transition by building the 2030 Agenda into their organisations and activities. Agenda 2030 Our sector’s competitiveness Together with the previous two, at Aclima we present our sector’s Competitiveness as the third driver of change. The environmental sector has demonstrated its resilience during the Covid-19 health crisis, maintaining its employability at pre-pandemic levels and generating more and more jobs, and the green transition presents opportunities in new types of green jobs. The environmental sector’s cross-cutting nature also shows just how competitive it is, with its huge capacity to pull along other sectors into the green transition, thus helping other economic sectors to become more competitive.
