Eduardo Castello Spain Eduardo Castello Spain I lead the Cyber-Physical (CyPhy) Life research group at IE University’s School of Science and Technology, focusing on combining robotics with blockchain technology to create distributed robotic systems that transform human-robot interactions. My work aims to shape open, fair, and transparent tech ecosystems for the future. With a PhD in robotics engineering from Osaka University (Ishiguro Lab) and over five years as a postdoctoral associate at MIT Media Lab, I have collaborated with global pioneers like Hiroshi Ishiguro and Alex (‘Sandy’) Pentland. My research has been published in top journals and featured in major media outlets like BBC, Wired, and The Guardian. Luciano Dyballa Brazil Luciano Dyballa Brazil “I was born in Rio de Janeiro, where I grew up with a deep fascination for science and mathematics. After graduating as a chemical engineer and spending a few years in industry, I felt a strong pull back to academia to pursue my lifelong passion for learning. That journey took me into the world of artificial intelligence and eventually to Yale, where I did my PhD, working at the intersection of AI and neuroscience. I love teaching, and as a professor at IE I’m committed to helping students develop both technical depth and critical thinking. Outside of work, I enjoy running, reading, playing the guitar, and spending time with my wife and kids.” Ruben Sanchez Spain Ruben Sanchez Spain “From early on, I knew my path would be different. While studying biotechnology, I realized traditional lab work wasn’t for me. With a background in coding, I saw the potential to merge my passion for biology with the power of computational science. I earned dual degrees in Biotechnology and Computer Science, followed by an MSc in Biophysics and a PhD at CNB-CSIC and UAM, where I focused on structural biology and machine learning. This unique blend drove my research about influential tools like BIPSPI and DeepEMhancer. After a postdoc at Oxford and time in industry at Astex Pharmaceuticals, I now teach at IE University, where I champion interdisciplinary science and love mentoring students to discover that the most exciting breakthroughs often happen when diverse fields collide.”
