#BIODIVERSITY Biodiversity and balanced ecosystems are essential for the health of our planet and everyone who lives on it. At Damm we want nature to continue to thrive, and are therefore promoting our Biodiversity Protection Plan with 3 pillars: And we’re not doing it alone! We are working with entities that share our vision and develop projects that make a difference in the environments where we are present. Discover them! Conservation and recovery actions for animal and plant species. Naturalisation of our installations. Raising awareness and educating. Cheers to a living, diverse world. Marine forest: Estrella Damm has partnered with the Blanes Advanced Studies Centre (CEAB-CSIC) to restore a kelp forest in the Cap de Creus Natural Park and thereby return to the Mediterranea. Otters: We participate in a study on the only otter colony living in the waters of the Mediterranean sea, specifically in Alt Empordà, together with the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Regional Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona Zoo Foundation. Together with the Galanthus Association, we have transformed the Estrella Damm Old Brewery into a space that is home to and which protects different species: Urban shelter: We take in urban birds, bats and insects thanks to feeders, nest boxes and other shelters. Planting of native species: We plant shrubs and aromatic plants on terraces and gardens to promote pollination. Release of swifts: A bird which emigrates from Africa to Barcelona each year. Sea turtles: At Damm we sponsor loggerhead sea turtles which are rehabilitated at the Centre for Marine Animal Recovery (CRAM), to then return them to the sea. Spanish toothcarp: We collaborate with the Barcelona Zoo Foundation and the Consortium for the Protection and Management of the Natural spaces of the Llobregat Delta to reintroduce this Mediterranean fish to its natural habitat. Reforestation: We promote reforestation actions to recover local flora. Cleaning of El Prat beach: As part of the “Festa de la Platja”, we are promoting cleaning of microplastics from the sand, which are a hazard to the equilibrium of marine fauna and coastal ecosystems. Majorcan midwife toad: With the Barcelona Zoo Foundation, preservation actions are carried out for this amphibian in danger of extinction which only lives in the Sierra de Tramuntana, in Mallorca. Some of the most notable initiatives promoted by the “Fundación Estrella de Levante”: Restoration of the Segura river and the irrigation ditches of the Huerta de Murcia with the Columbares association. Cleaning of seabeds: Together with the Fishermen’s Guild of San Pedro del Pinatar. Otters: Collaboration with the Thader Lutra association to improve the living conditions of otters in the Segura river. Sea horses: With Hippocampus, we support a sea horse recovery project in Mar Menor. Marbled duck: We collaborate with SEO/BirdLife in different actions to improve the habitat of this bird. White-clawed crayfish: After being gone for almost half a century, the only crayfish native to the Iberian peninsula has been reintroduced to the Tejadillos river, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sustainable Development of the Government of Castile-La Mancha and Fuente Liviana. Fontainhas River: Regeneration of the riverbanks by Santarém factory. Arroces, ensaladas y tapas. Parecerá que estás fuera de Barcelona sin haber salido de la misma ciudad.
