In order to access a Spanish university, Spanish students need to have completed “bachillerato” (high school). Homologation or accreditation is the process that international students have to complete in order to show they have achieved the academic equivalent to the “bachillerato” in their home country. This is a legal requirement to access universities in Spain. What happens if something goes wrong during the homologation/accreditation process?Homologation process takes between six to nine months (sometimes it can take up to one year). You will need to get it during your first academic year to be able to enroll for your second year. If something goes wrong, you will only find out at the end of the homologation process, which means that you may not have enough time to start again and get it completed on time to enroll for your second year. This is why we highly recommend you to complete this process with Hostudents, a company we trust to be fast and reliable. If the country you have studied in has signed the Hague Convention i. First step: Legalising your documents In order to legalize your documents (transcripts from the last three academic years and upper secondary school diploma) you will have original copies that have been stamped by your school. Once you have the originals, you will also need to affix the Apostille of the Hague. To obtain the Apostille of the Hague you will need to go to the Spanish Embassy or Consulate in the country where you studied, and take the original documents that have been stamped by your school. ii. Second step: Homologation Once you have legalized your diploma and transcripts, the next step is to homologate these documents. If your documents are not in Spanish, you will have to obtain a sworn translation into Spanish from a legal translator in Spain (please ask at the Spanish Embassy or Consulate for a qualified legal translator in your country). When you have legalized and translated all your documents (if necessary), you can go to the Spanish Embassy or Consulate in the country where you have studied and start the homologation process. Once you have started this process, they will give you a document called a “volante de inscripción” (registration notice). You will need to send this document to me in order to enroll in the programme. As this can be a tricky process, we recommend you to contact Hostudents to complete it for you.
