29 EXHIBITORS AT PHARMAPACK EUROPE 2024 Oliver Healthcare Packaging Booth BC45 Recyclable Materials: A First Step to Your Sustainability Goals Often reaching sustainability goals in packaging comes down to plastic reduction. Which makes sense, if plastic is not used from the start, then there is no plastic waste. However, plas- tic is difficult to replace in the healthcare packaging world because of its great microbial barrier and stable shelf-life. In healthcare, packaging takes on another layer of importance— keeping medical products clean helps to save lives. While eliminating plastics from packaging is not an imme- diate solution for the healthcare industry, what we can do is make it easier to recycle the plastic that comes from health- care packaging. Oliver Healthcare Packaging developed two recyclable materials —LF-2035AVR and UF-2050AVR. These new adhesive-laminated films are unique in that each layer in the film comes from the same polymer family, polyolefin, making them ideal for mechanical recycling. Another advantage to these films is that they go in the same recycling stream as DuPont™ Tyvek and our HDPE CleanCut® Cards, which makes it possible to recycle the full packaging configuration in one recycling stream. Tommy Smith, Technical Leader EMEA; “We understand it can be difficult for the end-users of our product to know how to recycle our materials and often, hospitals have a lot of waste in the operating room that requires separating intoll different recycling streams. Therefore, we thought it would be helpful to give our end-users a packaging configuration that can go into one stream.” In addition to being recyclable, both materials are locally sourced from EK-Pack, in Germany, and supplied within the EMEA region. Using locally sourced material is another great step to minimize your carbon footprint. Interested in learning more? Or looking for FREE samples?
