Air Europa has the prestigious EMAS accreditation. To become a leading name as regards sustainability in the airline industry is an important goal on the road map of Air Europa which, as part of its firmest environmental commitment, is promoting new responsible practices that support its declaration to work towards protecting the environment. With the focus on caring for the envi-ronment, Air Europa draw up a plan to reduce the fuel consumption of its long-haul fleet by 10%, and likewise achieve a 10% drop in the emissions of the Boeing 737. The multiple measures adopted in benefit of the environment and efficient growth, whose maximum exponent is the decision to oper-ate with the Dreamliner fleet, have enabled the airline to improve the efficiency of its flights by 2%, thus meeting the strategic goal of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The Boeing 787 Dreamliners stand out for their incomparable and exceptional envi-ronment performance, as they reduce both emissions and fuel con-sumption by 20%. Already considered to be the most efficient fleet, the airline has added and activated a set of actions, which include route optimisation programmes, the use of the Electronic Flight Bag for aircraft documentation and the engine compressor washing pro-gramme, which also reduces fuel consumption. Likewise, to lighten weight, the catering trolleys have been replaced with lighter ones, catering items have been adapted to real needs, the carpet inside planes has been changed and the baggage and goods adjustment has been improved to better regulate the weight carried on the plane. Everything, coupled with the creation of a fuel management commit-tee, to achieve the set environmental milestones. However, good practices as regards sustainability and efficiency are not new in Air Europa, which, since 2012, has been one of the three airlines in the world with the prestigious EMAS accreditation, the European environment management’s model of excellence. In addi-tion, for nearly two decades, the airline has also been sorting waste on board and it schedules regular inspections to guarantee the proper segregation of waste and its subsequent recycling. The control of nat-ural resource consumption and the ongoing training of the staff also helps to reduce the airline’s ecological footprint. And in its firm and determined commitment to care for the envi-ronment, Air Europa has taken yet another step and it has recently joined the Aviation Alliance, which groups together European airlines and airports committed to ensuring the success of the Fit for 55 pro-gramme, which provides Europe with the opportunity to become a world leader in the decarbonisation of aviation. Its goal is none other than to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and, at the same time, prevent carbon leakage and maintain European connectivity.
